Energy Advice

Energy Advice

Shetland Islands CAB has specialist energy advisers to help clients worried about high energy costs. You can access the Energy Advice Service by phoning or emailing us.  Home visits are unavailable at the moment due to COVID-19.

Our Energy Adviser can help you make sense of your energy bills and make sure you are paying energy costs in the most cost-effective way. We can check you are on the correct tariff and support you to consider whether switching supplier would help you save money. If there is a problem with your bills, we can negotiate with the energy company on your behalf. If you are in debt to your energy provider, we can help put a manageable payment plan in place.

We can help people with health problems or disabilities to access Priority Assistance Schemes. We can also check you are getting all the benefits you are entitled to.

We can advise if you would be eligible for support to improve the energy efficiency of your home (eg insulation, new boiler etc) and refer you on to Home Energy Scotland and Shetland Islands Council.

We can also advise on energy efficiency to help you use less energy and therefore cut your carbon footprint at the same time as saving on energy costs. Through funding from the Climate Challenge Fund, we can offer home visits from a specialist adviser who will help you plan how to cut your carbon emissions. He can also advise on renewable energy options and the loans/financial support available to help you switch to renewables. See our Warmer Greener Homes for Shetland Facebook page for more details.
